Black Cocoa Powder 500g

Create intensely dark cakes, cupcakes, cookies and desserts with our Black Cocoa Powder. This heavily alkalised cocoa powder has an exceptionally deep black colour, allowing you to achieve dramatic results without relying on large amounts of black food colouring.

Unlike regular brown cocoa powder, black cocoa has been heavily processed to produce its distinctive colour and a smooth, mild cocoa flavour. It's particularly useful for black velvet cakes, Oreo-style cookies, dark chocolate biscuits, black buttercream and striking monochrome or Halloween-themed desserts.

The deep colour is especially useful when making black frosting or cake batter, as you can achieve a much darker result without having to add large quantities of gel food colouring. The flavour is milder and less bitter than natural cocoa, making it well suited to recipes where you want the appearance of dark chocolate without an intensely strong cocoa flavour.

Black cocoa powder is not a direct substitute for every type of cocoa powder. Because it has been heavily alkalised, it does not provide the acidity needed to react with baking soda in recipes that rely on that reaction for rising. For best results, follow the recipe's instructions regarding the type and quantity of cocoa powder required.
